On-Court Referee Coaching

At Impact Basketball Referee Academy, we empower officials in the Atlanta area and around the country to master on-court decision-making and analysis. Our hands-on training breaks down live plays, developing the skills and confidence you need to officiate under pressure. We help both current and aspiring referees achieve new levels of performance and professionalism.

The "Impact" staff consist of highly trained and passionate on-court and retired NCAA D-1 and Professional (NBA, WNBA) referees that are motivated to help others improve their officiating skill set.

We also offer In-Class training by Zoom to group members of the Academy which allows us to share our knowledge across the US and Canada!

Our Story

At Impact Basketball Referee Academy, we are passionate about teaching basketball Officiating and everything it represents. We started this business with one goal in mind, providing high-level training to all those that have an interest in learning. Today, we continue to uphold that vision and share our motto; "Doing great things for Others".

Our Founder: Billy Smith

Billy has had a remarkable career in officiating, spanning 20+ seasons and multiple leagues. He has left a significant mark on the sport. His journey since starting in 1996 and then transitioning to Women's college basketball in 2004 has been more than impressive, especially with his extensive work in the ACC, SEC, Big East and Big 12, as well as several other D1 conferences. His time in the WNBA, where he officiated for 14 seasons and was part of numerous playoff games, including 6 consecutive WNBA Finals appearances, highlights his skill and dedication to the sport.

Billy’s involvement in the NCAA Women's College Basketball tournament, which includes 18 tournament appearances, 13 Regionals, and 2 Regional finals, further exemplifies his expertise. Being selected to participate in the 2025 NCAA Final 4 is another testament to his continued excellence in officiating.

His passion for giving back to the game is reflected in his work with "Impact Basketball Referee Academy," where he trains and mentors aspiring officials, not only in the Atlanta area but nationwide and Canada, helping them reach their full potential. After opening the academy in 2010, Billy’s motto, "Doing great things for Others," captures the essence of his contributions and approach to training and giving back to those coming after him.
